Hi Guys! Aisling here again taking a closer look at how the dermaroller can help to reduce the appearance of acne scarring. I’ve briefly spoken about how dermaroller usage can help to reduce the appearance of acne scarring but never explained how. I found one of Havana Skin Clinic’s latest articles zoning in this topic to be beneficial as I myself suffer with light acne scarring due to breakouts I had years prior.
The following section is from Havana Skin Clinic’s official website:
Moving onto the science. By causing controlled injury to the surface of the skin over the areas that are affected, we’re promoting our bodies natural healing ability. This gives our collagen and elastin that kick they need to do their job properly and come to the surface. Your skin basically goes into repair mode and repairs any of the damaged skin.
Similar to how dermaroller usage works to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, our collagen and elastin is being woken up and reminded about the job they need to do.I found this information really useful in understanding how at home micro needling could help my scarring.
*Top Tip for Dermaroller Procedure Around the Eye Area:
Pull down the skin around the cheek bone area and then roll the area. ( See video. ) The skin is thinner around the eye area. It’s beneficial to use the dermaroller on this area to reduce dark circles and fine lines and wrinkles in this area. This advice comes from over 5 years experience in the industry as a laser and skincare specialist and manager to their Dundrum clinic.
I do not have severe scarring, just light marks around my cheeks.
For severe acne scarring, seek the advice of a skincare specialist before deciding whether you need full micro needling treatment or if the dermaroller will surfice.
